The Village Reads program, including this blog, believes reading, like writing and making, as poet Gregory Orr explained recently in an interview, cultivates “active souls rather than passive victims.” Conceived in a time of social distancing, Village Reads reframes reading as a valuable site for creative practice open to everyone.

Discover or renew and share ways of reading and conversing with texts, authors, and fellow village readers to deepen understanding of our world, our community, and ourselves.

You are invited to comment and participate in this readers’ workshop with no obligation to sign up, though by doing so we can stay in better touch.

—Sonja O’Donnell, Annex Arts’ Reader-in Residence, author of these posts and facilitator of “Readers and Writers in Conversation” events and discussion groups.
