SUPPORTING ARTISTS, BUILDING COMMUNITY

Located in the heart of Castine, Maine, Annex Arts is an artist residency program and a center for workshops, panel discussions, screenings, and community events. We offer residencies in visual and media arts, literary arts, and performing arts.

Our mission is to support artists and the arts as agents of personal, institutional, and community change. We do this by creating and maintaining free workspaces and apartments for visiting artists in Castine, Maine during the months of June, July, and August, and by supporting meaningful opportunities for public interaction with our artists and programs. We aim to connect community with new ideas, perspectives, and approaches as a way of weaving vibrancy, resilience, and social connection into the fabric of our daily lives.

October 2019

The two+ weeks I spent in Castine were the first stretch of uninterrupted time that I have had to work in that way for 17 years, and it was mind-blowingly productive for me.

I really liked the feeling of being part of a greater community while I was there. I liked that I was able to meet some of the local artists, specifically the painters. My mind was opened up to possibilities that I hadn’t imagined before.
