About Ryan
Growing up, Ryan found inspiration in the urban environment, observing and taking influence from the emergence of graffiti art. Most recently, Ryan found his stride in painting very large-scale murals. These massive murals build on his long-held love for public art and street culture while expanding his style beyond traditional graffiti lettering. Ryan is the recipient of several grants and residencies including the CPAC Creative Workforce Fellowship and the Creative Fusion residency, offering him opportunities to paint large-scale projects encompassing thousands of feet of building surfaces. Recent commissions include Warby Parker in Cleveland and New York City, Facebook in Columbus, Ohio, and Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland, Ohio. Ryan lives and works in Lakewood, Ohio.
Residency Intentions
While in residence Jaenke plans to develop and execute a mural on the lower half of the Annex Arts studio façade that reflects his time and experience in Maine. In addition to the mural, he will continue to explore his current interest in automatic drawing as a foundation for larger works.
Workshop: Mural Techniques - Creating a pounce pattern
In this public engagement program, I will demonstrate how I use an electric pounce machine to create a “pounce pattern”. A pounce machine is a sign painter’s tool that is used to create a perforated outline of a design that is transferred to a wall or other surface using a chalk pad.
